Question:
Why can't I connect to MHO Networks? (Basic Troubleshooting)
Response:
Basic Troubleshooting:
1. Restart your computer.
2. Check your connections: Is the modem connected to
the computer? Is the modem connected to the phone line?
Is the phone line connected to the wall phone jack?
3. Attempt to connect normally. Verify that your username
in the Dialup Connection window is typed correctly.
This is case sensitive- verify that your caps lock key
is not on.
4. Retype your password (these will appear as asterisks
or bullets and may appear to be longer or shorter than it actually is, this is because it is masked for security reasons). Note: usernames and passwords are case
sensitive
Verify the access number you are dialing:
1. Double click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
2. Double click the icon labeled Dial-up Networking.
(If you are using Windows 2000 or Windows ME you need
to access the dial up networking folder through your
control panel)
3. Make sure you are dialing the correct access number.
4. Can you hear the modem dialing? If not, there could
be a problem with either the modem, phone line, or you
have disabled the speaker volume in the modem control
panel.
General Diagnosis Suggestions:
Are you able to hear a dial tone if you attempt using
a handset on this line? If not the problem is most likely
the phone line, contact your local carrier (e.g. Qwest,
Sprint).
If so you may want to try using a different
cord from the jack on the wall to the back of your computer.
A general way to see if your modem could be malfunctioning
is: click start then settings and then click control
panel. Double click the modems icon then click the diagnostics
tab. Now click the query modem button. If a dialogue
box opens and displays various modem commands then chances
are your modem is fine.
Is there an error message? If so, note
the details of the error message (the error number and
the message) before contacting MHO Technical Support.
